Why do I want a USB cable to be included with my GPS?
What benefit does that give me/what is it for?
I'm trying to decide between the Garmin Nuvi 255W and 760. MP3 playback is of no consequence to me.
Several reasons:
1. Updates: You need a USB cable to connect the GPS to a computer for any type of update: maps (not very frequent, once a year at most), and software (quite frequent - the 255W just had an update about 2 weeks ago). These updates are used to improve performance and fix software bugs.
2. Charging: The 255W comes only with a car charger, but no wall charger which you can buy separately (I am not sure about the 760). Without a wall charger, you can use a USB cable to charge the GPS through a computer when away from the car (some cars also cut off power to the cigarette lighter when you you turn off the ignition).
3. Registration: You also need a USB cable to register the unit with Garmin..
