What is inside a serial cable? db9?
I would like to know what is inside a serial cable (DB9 serial). I suppose there are 9 drivers shielded inside. I do not want to just buy a cable to cut open. What is the caliber of drivers son of 9. I was researching earlier and found that the serial cable only 3 or 4 son inside but then why would there be 9-pin ... I think I have a null modem cable, but I just call it a serial cable. I'm talking about something like this: http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2288284 How many drivers are shielded inside? Do they offer these cables in DB15HD (High Density DB15)? And these 15 drivers have shielded the interior. Thank you.
A DB15HD cable (Technically a DE-15 cable) is usually sold as a monitor cable, not a series. A DB9 (or DE-9) is a serial cable. There may son will be 9 through it, he can not. There are 9 pins on the connector, and they are all used, but many of them are not relevant for many applications. Some of them are dedicated to a modem control and have no practical relevance of control when something other than a modem. The DB9 is actually a small subset of a 25-pin connector earlier. Again all signals have been used, but some of them so rarely that the decision they made was they could be abandoned and few are missing. As for the son, the standard 232 says nothing on the dipstick. There is a limit to the capacity of the cable, but that is about it. Small enough for the cables almost anything will do. Another common cable is a null modem cable, but the son of the latter are wired in a particular way and not all of them are placed between the two ends of the cable. The reason is null modems make a number of trick to fool the two computers into thinking they speak instead of modems to another computer. Some signals are actually forwarded to the sending computer to allow this.
