How to check the hard drive interface?
I am about to upgrade my hard drive like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136073 So basically I'm an idiot when it comes to technical jargon. I need to know what type of interface do I have? IDE, ATA, or SATA. Because from what I understand I can install this new hard drive if it is compatible with SATA. How can I verify this? When my computer was built I is about 20% of the work and my friend did the rest. I am a novice so please bare with me. Thank you
FYI, ATA and IDE are the same type (this is in fact, PATA, but was shortened by geeks like me to ATA). To check if you have IDE or SATA, check the connectors available on your motherboard and power supply. The connection is an IDE connector off two lines, 40 holes per row with a wire wide enough. A SATA connector is L-shaped and is approximately 1 / 3 of the width of the IDE. The power connector on the PS is also L-shaped, but is much broader than the data connector on the motherboard.
