Board IDE can not read SATA hard drive?
here's the story. I have an older motherboard that has only IDE slots it, but I plan to install a new hard drive SATA 250 GB it. I bought a duplex (IDE / SATA-> SATA / IDE->) converter and plugged in my IDE slots. the problem is that after I turned it on, my machine can not read my hard drive. I checked my BIOS ide config setting, but all slaves and masters are dimmed with only "not detected" status. can someone help me with this so I can work with my SATA disk? Oh, when I start my computer, it can not even read my hard drive. it simply stops at a message like "reboot your system and correct insert system disk"
SATA drives are not typically shared, meaning that they do not show up in Explorer. You need to tell Windows what volumes you want on the disc. Go to Disk Management (Run> diskmgmt.msc) and your drive should appear as "unallocated". In most cases you will need a "New simple volume" that occupies the entire Disc. If the disc still does not appear, make sure the converter is properly connected. The converter needs both the data connection (Flat cable) and the electrical connection (4-pin Molex, red, black, black, yellow) to work. The connection between the converter and the drive should be fine, since SATA drives standard connections. If there are switches on the converter, read the manual to see if they are correct. Also check a shot to see if the BIOS IDE slots have somehow been disabled. (The setting is not common for a board of directors only IDE but let some ...)
